Please read these terms before using KanjiDo (“the Service”). By using the Service you agree to be bound by them.
1. About the Service
The Service is online study material for Japanese kanji. It provides a short video for each character, stroke order, readings, compound words, example sentences, and practice questions on reading, writing, radicals and stroke counts. It is available in Japanese, English and Burmese.
The Service is not affiliated with any organisation that administers kanji proficiency examinations, and it is not the official material of any such examination.
2. Accounts
An account is optional. Every study feature works without one; in that case your progress is stored only in your own browser.
With an account, your progress, review schedule and study streak are stored on our servers so you can continue on another device. Please give accurate information when registering. Keeping your password safe is your own responsibility.
If a child uses the Service, please register with the consent of a parent or guardian.
3. Pricing
Every feature of the Service is currently free of charge.
We intend to offer material for the higher grades later as one-off purchases, sold by pack. If we do, we will announce the price and what each pack contains inside the Service beforehand. We will not retroactively put material behind a paywall once it has been released for free.
4. Prohibited conduct
You may not:
• copy, redistribute or sell the material (videos, explanations, questions) without permission
• make automated bulk requests or place an undue load on our servers
• reverse-engineer the Service or gain unauthorised access to it
• infringe the rights of other users or third parties
• register an account with false information
5. Intellectual property and sources
The explanations, example sentences, videos and design produced by us belong to the operator of the Service. You may use them for your own personal study only.
The Service uses the following open data under their respective licences, with attribution:
• Stroke order data: KanjiVG (CC BY-SA 3.0)
• Readings, stroke counts and meanings: KANJIDIC2 / EDRDG (CC BY-SA 4.0)
Attribution appears on the About page and on the stroke-order screen of each video.
6. Disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is”. We take care over the accuracy of the material, but we do not warrant that it is free of errors or that it will lead to a pass in any examination.
We will try to give notice before the Service is interrupted, changed or discontinued, but we are not liable for loss arising from any of these.
7. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. We will announce any significant change inside the Service. If you keep using the Service afterwards, you are taken to have accepted the revised terms.
8. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the law of Japan. The Tokyo District Court shall have exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over any dispute arising in connection with the Service.
