KanjiDo (“the Service”) is built to collect as little as it can. This page sets out what we collect, what we use it for and where it goes — matching what the software actually does.
1. What we collect
If you do not create an account:
No personal data is stored on our servers. Your progress, goals and settings live only in your own browser (localStorage). Clearing your browser data clears them too.
If you create an account:
• Your name, email address and password (stored hashed — we cannot read the original)
• Study data: which kanji you have seen, your answers and whether they were right, your review schedule, your study streak, your mock exam history
In both cases:
• Access logs: IP address, browser type and timestamp — the ordinary web-server record, used to investigate faults and abuse.
2. What we use it for
We use what we collect only to:
• record your progress and work out when to bring a character back for review
• let you carry on from another device
• answer your enquiries
• investigate faults and deal with abuse
• improve the material (for example, which questions are hardest — aggregated so that no individual is identified)
3. Advertising and analytics
The Service shows no advertising.
It contains no third-party analytics (Google Analytics or anything comparable), no advertising trackers and no social-media measurement tags. We do not use cookies for tracking. Your sign-in and your local progress are held in your browser’s localStorage only.
4. Sharing with third parties
We do not sell or rent personal data. Data reaches third parties only where it must, to run the Service:
• Video delivery (CDN): when your device fetches a video file, your IP address and connection details reach the delivery provider. Your name and study data do not.
• Payments: there are no paid features at present. If we sell packs in future we will use Stripe. Card numbers go directly to Stripe; we never receive them.
We share nothing else, except where the law requires disclosure.
5. Retention and deletion
Account details and study data are kept for as long as the account exists.
To close your account, write to the contact address below. We will delete the account and put the study data beyond use; removal from backups takes up to 30 days.
Access logs are deleted after at most 90 days.
6. Children
The Service teaches the kanji taught in Japanese elementary school, and we expect children to use it.
If a child registers an account, please do so with the consent of a parent or guardian. On a guardian’s request we will delete the child’s account and study data.
Without an account, nothing is held on our servers. For children we would suggest starting that way.
